How are our classes linked together?

Because of the different sizes of year group in Years four, five and six this year, the top two classes in school work together in groups during the afternoons. We all enjoy working together and having the opportunity to be taught by Mrs Lacey and Mr Roy for different subjects.

To find out what we're learning about in different subjects follow the link to the 'Our Curriculum' page.

Spring 2020

Design Technology - Where our food comes from

In Design technology we have been finding out where our food comes from. How many food miles it travels to our shops and the importance of eating seasonal and local produce. We visited our very own local village shop 'Daleside Stores' and spoke to Matthew, Andrea and Hayley about the local produce they stock and sell and where it comes from.

Autumn 2019

In PE we have been mostly been concentrating on our Tag Rugby skills.  The children have been mixed from Year 4-6 and the size of the group has enabled some excellent progression to take place.  The skill level has been so impressive and it will be great to see how successful they will be when it comes to the Tag rugby tournament later on in the year.  In other areas, we have been trialling some Sports Hall athletics and using the indoor gym apparatus when it has been wet.  Again, we have another Sports Hall athletics tournament this term and we're sure we will field a really strong team.

In Geography we have been learning the names and locations of the continents and oceans of the world and also the countries, seas and major cities of the UK, so that we can recall them speedily and accurately.

In Mrs Lacey's Maths we have been learning about Roman Numerals and and how they differ from the numbers we use today.

In Art we have been learning about Islamic Geometric patterns. We have found out about the important elements, colours and themes of the patterns and have had a go at drawing and painting our own patterns.

Squirrel's Literacy

In Mr Roy's Literacy class this week, we have been very topical and spent the week researching 5 of the political parties.  The children spent time, independently searching through information and manifestos to present their side of the debate centered around the main priorities - Health, Education, Crime, Transport, Housing, The Environment and Brexit.  The different parties put together a very comprehensive argument and were able to answer some very deep questioning.  After the debate the children entered a private ballot and voted for their most favoured party.  With good news and maybe a future prediction, I am happy to say that the Green Party won with the majority of the votes.  Well done everyone- a fantastic introduction to politics!

Design Technology

In Design Technology we spend a very enjoyable few weeks, designing, building and evaluating Marble runs. We made them out of junk modelling materials and videoed the finished runs. We learnt a lot about how to measure, cut and fix and also the effectiveness of different materials.
